In early 2014, the phantom artist ZHU released a medley of reworked Outkast classics that took the online music world by storm. ''Faded' became an instant international hit and secured a Grammy nomination - a first for an anonymous artist.
Following his debut Nightday EP, ZHU's sophomore project Genesis Series EP featured notable collaborators of all genres, including AlunaGeorge, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Skrillex. It foreshadowed the intricate ecosystem of ZHU: a fashion line, live cinematic concert experience art murals, and more. The EP featured the international hit ‘Working For It’ which hit top 40 and certified platinum in Australia, while also hitting #5 on the Billboard US Dance/Electronic chart.
His debut album GENERATIONWHY was released in 2016, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the United States. ZHU premiered the title track at Coachella 2016 during his closing set in the Sahara Tent. His performance was praised, with a writer for the New York Observer suggesting that he could be "the next Daft Punk". In 2018 ZHU returned with the massive success of 'My Life' featuring Tame Impala. The track hit #1 on Spotify's Global Viral 50, racked up over 20M streams and earned praise from notable critics Pitchfork, Billboard, The FADER, BBC's Annie Mac, and more.
On September 9th, ZHU released RINGOS DESERT and it instantly hit #1 on the iTunes Electronic Albums Chart. The album was “conceived, written and recorded in deserts around the country, and you can hear the dusty strangeness of desert spirituality in it screeching guitars and soulful cries” (Billboard) and has already racked up over 105 million streams since its release.
